EVI Interview - Adam Lajeunesse on the Arctic: Canada
To inaugurate the ICAS Expert Voices Initiative Arctic-focused series, on January 22, 2025, Dr. Adam Lajeunesse, an Arctic expert from St. Francis Xavier University in Canada, met virtually with ICAS Executive Director and Senior Fellow Dr. Nong Hong to discuss significant developments in the Arctic in recent years.

These include discussions about the role of the Arctic Council amid the Russia-Ukraine conflict and the subsequent sanctions on Russia, as well as U.S. President Trump’s announcements in 2019 and again in 2025 about the possibility of purchasing Greenland. As one of the five Arctic Ocean littoral states and a key member of the Arctic Council, Canada plays a pivotal role in shaping the region’s future.

6th “U.S.-China Plus” Roundtable
On Friday, December 13, 2024, the 6th “U.S.-China Plus” Roundtable was held at the Institute for China-America Studies’ office in Washington D.C. The 6th “U.S.-China Plus” consisted of the following three panels: Panel I: The New Economic Nationalism: Assessing the Consequences of U.S.-China Derisking; Panel II: Geopolitical Hotspots and Implications for U.S.-China Bilateral Ties; and Panel III: Paths to Coexistence: Is Climate still an Area of U.S.-China Cooperation?

ICAS 2024 Annual Conference
On Thursday, December 12, 2024, ICAS hosted its 2024 Annual Conference in-person at the Georgetown Marriott Hotel in Washington, D.C. This year's conference, subtitled "Trump 2.0: Will U.S.-China Relations Prosper, Suffer or Muddle Through?" and concurring with ICAS' 10th Anniversary, included a Keynote, four expert panels and a Luncheon Speech. We are grateful to all of our expert participants and supporters who helped make this year's conference both productive and engaging!

BCCC Quarterly Volume 3, Issue 4
Issue 4 of the 2024 Blue Carbon & Climate Change (BCCC) Quarterly has been released! Each quarter, ICAS releases a magazine-style newsletter which will record the most important trends and developments regarding blue carbon policies and regulations. It also includes two special sections -- the 'Theme of the Quarter' and the 'Blue Carbon Country Profile' -- that aim to bring a fresh element to each issue.

The 2024 Q4 Theme is "Mixed Results in Climate Cooperation" and the 2024 Q4 Country Profile is on Saudi Arabia.

ICAS MAP REPORT - Navigating the Arctic Shifts
"Following Russia’s annexation of Crimea in 2014 and crisis starting in Ukraine in 2022, the United States, European Union, and other Western imposed stringent sanctions on key sectors of Russia’s economy, particularly the energy sector. This report analyzes the effects of these sanctions on Russia’s economy, geopolitics, and security, with a focus on their impact on Russia’s Arctic liquefied natural gas (LNG) projects, such as Yamal LNG and Arctic LNG 2, both critical to the country’s energy export strategy."
