Ambassador Kim has not been vocal about his positions on the U.S.-China relationship. However, given his role as Special Envoy to North Korea, a country that has a unique relationship with China, it will be important to follow how Biden’s North Korean policy is implemented.

Amb. Kim played a large role during the Trump administration’s talks with North Korea and traveled with former Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, to Pyongyang to engage in negotiations. As he is one of the few high ranking Biden administration officials that also served at a high level under Trump, this puts him in a relatively unique position compared to Blinken, Campbell, Sherman, and other State Department officials who are now only just returning to the Federal government.
