Based on publicly available information, ICAS approximated the locations of Russia’s airbases in the Arctic Region. The ranges are calculated to provide a visualized expression of Russia’s overall aviation power in the Arctic.
According to the U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency 2017 Russian Military Report, the Russian military currently possesses a great variety of fighters. These fighters include the Sukhoi aircraft family (Su-25, Su-24, Su-30MK, Su-27, Su-35S, and Su-34) and the Mikoyan-Gurevich aircraft family (MiG-29, MiG-35, and MiG-35E). Based on the specifications provided by Sukhoi and Rosoboronexport, the sole state intermediary agency for Russia’s exports and imports of arms, ranges of these aircraft are calculated and visualized.

Disclaimer:
Due to a lack of publicly available information, each of Russia’s airbase was assumed to possess all types of currently active aircraft. Therefore, this visualization is an approximated representation of Russia’s potential air power projection in the Arctic.
Due to technical limitations of the mapping program, this map only depicts air power projection in and directly around the Arctic circle.
