Given the expanding significance of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) around the world, ICAS has dedicated much of its recent research efforts to understanding and debating the impact of the coronavirus on US-China relations.
The novel coronavirus (formally known as COVID-19 or SARS-CoV-2) is an infectious disease that, since the first case was exposed in Wuhan, China in December 2019, has exponentially grown into a pandemic impacting virtually every facet of society. Over the last few weeks, it has become evident that the impacts of this pandemic will be far-reaching and long-lasting.
The Institute for China-America Studies is committed to providing timely, relevant and focused analyses and interactive maps on the coronavirus pandemic to grant policymakers and the general public a more comprehensive understanding of ongoing events.
First, researchers from the Institute for China-America Studies (ICAS) have developed a living database in order to track developments in the coverage and response by global actors, both government and private, with a focus on perspectives from the West. ICAS will continue updating this database and is currently in the development stage of a second database that focuses on Chinese coverage and responses looking at similar sectors as a focus of study.
Additionally, ICAS will be releasing a series of commentaries that hone in on a topic of interest, each of which will be accompanied by its own interactive map.
The Institute for China-America Studies is an independent nonprofit, nonpartisan research organization dedicated to strengthening the understanding of U.S.-China relations through expert analysis and practical policy solutions.
