The Institute for China-America Studies (ICAS) is an independent think tank in Washington D.C. ICAS focuses on the evolving dynamics in the U.S.-China relationship to promote greater collaboration and mutual understanding through sincere exchanges of fresh ideas, objective policy-oriented research, and fair assessments of this critical bilateral relationship.
We aim to provide a window into the worldviews of both the United States and China, and thereby serve as a vehicle to promote greater understanding between these two countries and societies.

The ICAS Maritime Affairs Program (MAP) stimulates intellectual research and exchanges on ocean governance in the global maritime domain.
The ICAS Trade ‘n Technology (TnT) Program chronicles and analyzes the evolving dynamics of U.S.-China trade and technology affairs as they occur.
The ICAS Blue Carbon & Climate Change (BCCC) Program explores pathways for sustainably developing the blue carbon economy and combating climate change through open dialogue and novel policy research.
ICAS focuses on key issue areas in the U.S.-China relationship in need of greater mutual understanding. We identify promising areas for strengthening bilateral cooperation in spheres such as maritime security, economics, trade and technology relations, energy and environment policy, strategic stability, and global governance, with the end goal to explore avenues for improving this critical bilateral relationship.
Each year, the Institute for China-America Studies produces an annual report highlighting the work of our scholars and the impact it has had on addressing the most critical challenges in U.S.-China relations. In addition to highlighting the accomplishments of our scholars, ICAS annual reports provide a comprehensive overview of our organizational growth and programmatic activities of the preceding year.

The Institute for China-America Studies is an independent, nonprofit think tank primarily funded by the Hainan Freeport Research Foundation in China. Other sources of funding for ICAS include input from our partner institutions led by our advisory board members in the form of joint research and cosponsoring academic events, research grants and independent contributions through our Support Us page.
