Lina Khan

Commissioner of the Federal Trade Commission

Lina Khan is Commissioner of the Federal Trade Commission since June 15, 2021. Khan is an associate professor at Columbia Law School, where she teaches and writes about antitrust law, the antimonopoly tradition, and law and political economy. Prior to her position at Columbia, Khan served as counsel to the U.S. House Judiciary Committee’s Subcommittee on Antitrust, Commercial, and Administrative Law, where she helped lead the Subcommittee’s investigation into digital markets. Khan was a legal advisor in the office of Commissioner Rohit Chopra at the Federal Trade Commission.

On China

In her seminal 2017 article “Amazon Antitrust Paradox,” Khan argued that the current framework in antitrust fails to capture the potential harms to competition posed by Amazon’s dominance and called for a reform in current approaches to antitrust. Given her criticism of big tech’s market power, Khan can be a relevant figure in the U.S.-China tech rivalry. Khan does not appear to have any publicly-known views on China or the U.S.-China relations at this time.
