The 2014 ICAS South China Sea Timeline was developed by researchers at the Institute for China-America Studies in Washington, D.C. as a tool to aide any interested parties in understanding the events in the South China Sea during 2014 leading to the current tensions in this highly disputed region.
Organized chronologically, events include freedom of navigation operations (FONOPs), collisions and interactions between ships (military, fishing, and commercial), military flybys in disputed areas, publications of new images and resources of the region, and diplomatic visits among ASEAN nation states and China.
The Institute for China-America Studies is an independent nonprofit, nonpartisan research organization dedicated to strengthening the understanding of U.S.-China relations through expert analysis and practical policy solutions.
